Jamieson was set to make a comeback from a stress fracture of the back he suffered in England in June and was scheduled to play in New Zealand’s first Test match in Mount Maunganui against the same opponents. He was forced to withdraw from the series due to a suspected recurrence of the injury, but later MRI scans and consultations with a back surgeon revealed the necessity of surgery.

The recovery of 27-year-old Jamieson has no set timetable. Gary Stead, the head coach of the Blackcaps, hoped that the procedure and required recovery would benefit him in the long run.

At the mini-auction, the Kiwi all-rounder was acquired by four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his base price of Rs. 1 crore. Similar injuries have recently been prominent, particularly among fast bowlers. The same problem has affected several England pacers, including Saqib Mahmood and Olly Stone, and Jasprit Bumrah is currently dealing with it.

“It’s been a challenging and difficult time for Kyle and a big loss for us,” Stead said. “He’s been fantastic around all of our sides when he’s been part of them. We just wish him well and hope we’ll know more in three to four months of what that end prognosis looks for him as well.
“A number of world-class players have had surgery in the back and it’s different periods of time they recover. We just want Kyle [to get] the best chance of recovery because we know what a star he’s been for us.
“Surgery provides a quicker return to play and that’s the encouraging thing for him.”
