Rapper Kiernan Forbes, better known by his stage name AKA, 35, was shot outside a popular restaurant on February 11 in Durban, South Africa. The rapper, according to the local media, was shot six times.
On February 27, 2023, his brand-new album, Mass County, was scheduled for release.
AKA was shot while standing on the pavement at about 2:00, according to an anonymous witness who spoke to a media from the site. According to other sources, the rapper’s close companion also perished in the incident, while his security was injured.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda told the media, “I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper. Police will not be releasing any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed.”
In the meantime, tributes have sprouted on his Instagram profile. “Please continue to protect your family. Thank you, brother,” a user commented on his last post. Another person wrote: “May heaven welcome you with opens arms, I am sorry & rest in eternal peace!”
A statement from the rapper’s family offering condolences was also posted on his official Twitter account. The post read, “It’s with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son.”
