The UEFA Champions League defending champions Real Madrid was up against their old rival Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey’s quarter-final fixture on Thursday night, 26th January. The match was played at Madrid’s home ground named Santiago Bernabeu.
The thrilling game ended with a scoreline of 3-1 in the end. It was a comeback from the champion side to get their team into the semifinals of the competition. Real Madrid could have lost this game but a equalising goal 10 minute before the full-time whistle got them saved.
Atletico Madrid was the one who scored first in the game. Alvaro Morata scored in the 19th minute to give Atletico the lead. Real Madrid after trying hard scored an equaliser in the 79th minute. This was Rodrygo’s goal which took the game into the extra-time where Real Madrid won it.
Karim Benzema scored a goal just before the extra time’s half-time. It was an amazing goal to take the lead and in the end Vinicius Junior scored which made it 3-1 for the host in the game and confirmed their place in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey.
