The Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, on Wednesday, chaired a meeting to formulate strategy for the remainder of the parliament session. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary and all congress MPs were present at the meeting, which took place in the central hall of the parliament.

Tensions at the borders with China were central to the discussion of the meeting. The former congress president at the meeting said that silence on matters of serious concern is a defining feature of this government. Accusing the government of disrespecting democracy Sonia Gandhi criticised the divisive policies of the government and dividing people.

The former congress president at the meeting asked the government about its policies on China and why it has allowed China to embolden itself. Sonia Gandhi also questioned the growing trade with China amidst the faceoff.

Opposition members have been demanding a discussion on the border issue with china after the Twang incident in Himachal Pradesh. Opposition members demanded the discussion on the matter under Rule 267, but was rejected by the speaker on Monday.

Reportedly, the the soldiers of Indian army and PLA were involved in a clash after China unilaterally tried to change the status quo in the Twang sector on December 7. Opposition leaders have criticised the government for running away from the discussion.

Congress is expected to stage a protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the parliament complex to demand a discussion on India-China border tensions. Other opposition parties are also expected to join the protest.
