In the ongoing Test match between India and Bangladesh, debutant and opening batsman of hosts Zakir Hasan managed to score an incredible century. Zakir becomes the fourth Bangladeshi batsman to score a Test century on debut. Aminul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful and Abul Hasan are the other three Bangladeshi batsmen who scored a century on Test format.
Zakir Hasan led Bangladesh’s resistance with a tenacious century on Day 4, making his mark in his first Test and then some. Prior to finally losing to Ravichandran Ashwin off a rather amazing catch from Virat Kohli, Zakir scored 100 runs in 224 balls.
After making the catch, Kohli was seen giving Zakir a pat on the back and speaking to him briefly. The discussion appeared to be cordial, and Zakir later acknowledged that the former India captain had congratulated him in a press conference following the day’s play. When questioned about what Kohli had told him, he responded, “He congratulated me and I thanked him.”
