Kochi based local language learning startup Entri earns $1.7 Million. In addition to the $1.4 million it obtained from a consortium of investors headed by Good Capital in February for a Kochi-based local-language learning app, it raised $1.7 million to close its Pre-Series A fund to a total of $3.1 million.

Entri is targeting a sector of over 400 million citizens in India seeking to get a better paid career in their mother tongue, According to Founder and CEO Mohammed Hisamuddin. The startup would use the freshly raised money to focus on the opportunities ahead and speed up promotions, and create more content in the months ahead.

“Only five percent of all the citizens in the world have English as their first language. The majority have their own mother tongue including Malayalam. Also Tamil, Hindi, Arabic, etc”, Mohammed Hisamuddin added.

A host of venture investors from Silicon Valley and India, including HyperTrack Founder Kashyap Deorah and Hari TN, Head of HR at BigBasket, have participated in the session.

Startup To The Millions

“But they need to focus on English content on the Web to acquire the skills that apply to them. What we have learned at Entri is that when we offer premium content in their mother tongue. They appreciate and comprehend it much more than English for obvious reasons. This is the issue Entri is addressing. And the app has so far seen users experience more than one crore minute of video lessons. And 27 crore questions learned in local languages, “he said.

Entri offers different forms of learning materials (mock / adaptive assessments, flashcards, video lessons) for work seekers in native dialects, and trains them to get a government or private employment.

“Our revenues over the last four months have risen 30 percent month-on – month to hit an ARR of $2 million. We already have a blueprint that we can repeat throughout India. And we are on target to reach an ARR of $5 million over the next three months with the kind of development we are seeing”. Mohammed expressed.

The application started with Malayalam material from Kerala, and has since been released in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. There are actually more than 150 programs. Including government employment and educational training programs in five separate local languages. Such as English and accounting.

The company claimed that three million people (90,000 of them paying subscribers) used Entry so far. And now the site adds 10,000 users daily. In 2020, entry would hit five million users. And over the next 18 months, it will aim a total of 10 million users.

“The vibrant economy of Entri and its strong development attest to the scope. Of the untapped potential for local language learning. Starting with 100 million citizens applying for government employment per year. Entri is widening the field of employable applicants through educating people in their own language. As it should be”.
