Cristiano Ronaldo, who is playing his last and fifth World Cup in Qatar was in tears during the anthem for Portugal against Ghana.
The 37-year-old forward was still without a club as of late Tuesday after Manchester United terminated his contract in response to his inflammatory interview in which he attacked United manager Erik ten Hag, the club’s owners, and numerous teammates.
Since Ronaldo doesn’t seem to have a new team in mind, his World Cup performances could persuade potential employers to sign the five-time world player of the year, who though he may be past his prime, is still one of football’s most dangerous finishers when on. Ronaldo was adamant that club issues would not affect his performances for Portugal at the World Cup and were not disrupting the team’s atmosphere going into Thursday’s FIFA World Cup 2022 group match against Ghana at Stadium 974 in Doha when speaking before it was revealed that he had left United by mutual consent.
Through December 18, 2022, Qatar will host the World Cup. In the competition’s whole existence, this is the first winter World Cup. 64 matches will feature competition amongst 32 of the best national teams. For the first time since 2014, Team USA will participate in the competition this year.
