Amidst tensions between India and China due to the escalation across the border, India has deployed Jaguar fighters in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Both the countries have had the most serious standoff in decades and India has made a maritime move in the eastern Indian Ocean along with various others, to showcase its power.

As reported by Swarajya magazine, The Indian Air Force has flown at least 10 Jaguar fighters to the Car Nicobar Air Base in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

These Jaguar fighters were deployed earlier this month, before the series of naval exercises conducted by the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean. These exercises also include the prominent Naval exercises with Japan and US, conducted near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

It is also reported that the Jaguars deployed at the island are the the maritime version of the Jaguars. They are a strike variant and are anticipated to be the Number 6 Squadron ‘Dragons’ based at the Jamnagar Air Force base in Gujrat. Such maritime variants comprise of a very small chunk of the fighter jets that the Indian Air Force currently possesses.

Equipped with various features like multiple enemy tracking and guiding missiles while resisting resisting jamming efforts, these fighter jets are supposed to strike an alarm for the mainland to resolve the border disputes diplomatically.

The People’s Liberation Army of China, over the past years, has been increasing its presence in the Indian Ocean. With the deployment of these jets and the exercises in the Indian Ocean, especially in Malacca Strait which is an imperative trade route for China, India has been strengthening its position against the mainland. It has been focusing on building a sound stand against the country by making a lot of noise in every way possible.
