Lionel Messi will play in his final World Cup in Qatar, as everyone had expected but didn’t want to believe. The supremacy of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in football is finally coming to an end. The Argentine has acknowledged that he will play in his final World Cup in Qatar next month, providing the latest evidence that the two legends won’t be around forever.

Argentina will enter Qatar as one of the favourites to win the World Cup given their victory at the Copa America last year. Messi asserted that his team is accustomed to facing high standards before significant competitions.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be Lionel Messi’s final tournament, the Argentina star declared in a conversation with Sebastián Vignolo. “This will be my last World Cup — for sure. The decision has been made,” Messi said in the conversation. The Argentine further said, “I’m counting down the days until the World Cup.” The player added, “It’s my last one, how’s it going to go?’. On one hand, I can’t wait for it to arrive but I’m also desperate for it to go well.”

Argentina presently boasts a 35-game winning streak dating back to 2019 thanks in large part to Messi’s stellar play this season for both club and country. Last year, when Argentina overcame Brazil in the Copa America final, Messi won the last international competition. Messi made it to the 2014 World Cup final but fell short to Germany, so the World Cup is a completely different beast. If this is really his last World Cup, he’ll look to make amends.
