Astronomers worldwide are eager to witness a rare phenomenon, that is expected to occur on July 24 2020. As per NASA, the asteroid can be ‘potentially hazardous’ to our planet Earth. As per the reports, the size of the asteroid is approximately 443 feet, perhaps, similar to the size of the London Eye.
The United States has termed the asteroid as 2020ND, along with branding this space rock as “potentially hazardous “. NASA further reports that the speed of this colossal rock is approximately 13.5 kilometres per second, 48,000 kilometres per hour, and 5,086,327 kilometres away from our planet.
Birmingham Live recently shared an article that stated: “Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are currently defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid’s potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth. Specifically, all asteroids with a minimum orbit intersection distance (MOID) of 0.05 au or less are considered PHAs.
NASA further released a statement on their Jet Propulsion Laboratory website, “NEOs are comets and asteroids that have been nudged by the gravitational attraction of nearby planets into orbits that allow them to enter the Earth’s neighbourhood. The scientific interest in comets and asteroids is due largely to their status as the relatively unchanged remnant debris from the solar system formation process some 4.6 billion years ago.”
Perhaps, we need to be patient to see whether we as humans can interfere in the working of ‘Space’, or will we be fortunate enough to dodge this catastrophic event sin intervention.
