According to reports, information on upgrading user Aadhaar card data has been made available by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Official sources have reportedly told news agency PTI that UIDAI, the organisation in charge of maintaining Aadhaar, will encourage users to voluntarily update their biometric information every ten years.
Notably, as of now moment, children must update their Aadhaar biometrics after turning 5 and 15 years old. “UIDAI will encourage people to update their biometrics, demographics etc once in 10 years. Over time, it will push people to update Aadhaar. Once a person is over a certain age, say 70 years, then it will not be required,” one of the officials said.
According to a report from news agency PTI, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enlisted nearly all adults in the nation, with the exception of a small number of persons in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Ladakh. “Enrolment started late in Meghalaya because of the NRC (National Register of Citizens) issue. In Nagaland and Ladakh, some of the remote areas are left to be covered. Aadhaar saturation level among adult residents is now near universal and overall saturation level is 93.65 per cent. Total fresh enrolment in August was only 24.2 lakh,” the official added.
It is significant to note that UIDAI has more than 50,000 enrollment centres and is currently onboarding 1.5 lakh postmen who will initially update mobile numbers and addresses of Aadhaar holders. It is also in discussions with states to bring group-oriented welfare schemes onto its platform as it will aid in reducing beneficiary duplication, prevent fund leaks, and conserve public funds, according to a report. Even the aviation ministry’s DigiYatra, which promises to make travel for passengers paperless, will be connected to Aadhaar for traveller identification, the official claimed.
In order to distinguish the Bal Aadhaar from the regular Aadhaar, it is issued in blue colour, with a note that it is valid until the child reaches the age of five years, the government said. The proof of relationship document (preferably a birth certificate) is collected at the time of enrollment for the Bal Aadhaar.
