The Sensex rose more than 50 points when the stock market began on Friday, and the Nifty50 opened above 17,950.
The BSE Sensex increased by 53.23 points, or 0.09 percent, to reach 60,351.2 at the market opening. The Nifty50 increased by 10 points, or 0.06 percent, to reach 17966.5. The Nifty mid and small cap both increased at the market’s opening by 0.27 and 0.47 percent, outperforming the benchmarks.
Minutes after the market opened, as many as 31 equities went up, 18 went down, and one remained unchanged. Following ONGC, which gained about 1.5% as a result of the government’s reduction in the windfall tax on crude, were Axis Bank, Hindalco, Wipro, and Titan, which each gained about 1%.
On the other hand, Asian Paints, Cipla, Reliance, Coal India, IndusInd Bank, and Maruti all saw slight declines in the early morning session today, with Asian Paints becoming the biggest Nifty loss, down over 0.3%.
Sectorally, the Nifty IT index helped the markets the most, rising over 1%, followed by the Metal and Auto indices, which increased by over 0.7 and 0.3 percent, respectively. Nifty Bank, Financials, and FMCG, which were all down between 0.8 and 0.2 percent in today’s early morning session, were the market’s drags.
