Priya Prakash Varrier will make her Hindi feature debut with Love Hackers, which is purportedly based on a true tale. The actor plays an adolescent who survives a cyberattack in the forthcoming crime thriller. Priya said in a new interview that she faced cyberbullying and abuse in real life following the release of her debut film, Oru Adaar Love.

Her song Manikya Malaraya Poovi from the 2019 Malayalam film included a wink and a flying kiss, which instantly made Priya a well-known face. As a result, a lawsuit was brought against the film’s director and Priya for infringing on religious sensitivities. Before making her Bollywood debut, Priya remembered how she became known as the “wink girl” after appearing in the film Oru Adaar Love. She claimed she was just 18 at the time and had no idea “how to deal” with the “noise surrounding her wink.”

Priya recently told News 18 about how she received ‘trolls, memes, and nasty remarks’ following her debut film. “When I first began out, there was a major blow up. The commotion around my blink was completely beyond my control or ability. I didn’t even have time to think about what was going on. Trolls, memes, and hate remarks had already begun. It was difficult at first to acclimate to whatever was going on because, as an 18-year-old outsider, I had no one to guide me or tell me what I should or should not do or how to deal with such a scenario. When you face so many things so early on in your career, they tend to take a toll on you and there’s a lot of self-doubt that comes with it,” Priya said.

Priya mostly works in Telugu and Malayalam films. She was the most searched-for figure on Google in India in 2018 after rising to stardom with Oru Adaar Love. She has since appeared in Telugu films such as Check, which was released in 2021, and Ishq: Not a Love Story.
