The permanent ambassador to the United Nation, Ruchira Kamboj has urged the international community to provide aid and assistance to Gaza amid the recent clashes between Israel and militants residing the in Gaza strip.

The recent clash between both sides has killed 44 people including 15 children per the Palestinian Health Ministry. In addition, Gaza’s health ministry has blamed “Israeli aggression” for the deaths of Palestinians and the more than 300 people wounded.

Israel has stated that they have hit 170 targets of the PIJ during the operation which was code-named “Breaking Dawn”. The Israelis have destroyed tunnels and weapon storage facilities.

In response, PIJ had fired over 400 rockets at Israel which were mostly intercepted by the Israeli air defence system but set air raid sirens and sent people into bomb shelters.

“The delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza must continue to remain the focus of the international community,” the envoy said during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on the situation in Gaza.

She mentioned that the latest escalation has caused immense suffering and loss of lives including that of children. It has left several injured and traumatised.

Hundreds of buildings and homes have been damaged or destroyed leaving thousands of Palestinians homeless following the escalation in the situation.

“We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected and their families.” Said the India Envoy.

Kamboj called for both parties to de-escalate and ensure the situation does not go out of control.

Kamboj also mentioned India’s support and the diplomatic efforts of the UN and the international community and mainly Egypt as the Egyptians were the ones who mediated and defused the situation.
