For the second T20I series against England at Edgbaston on Saturday, India sent Rishabh Pant to open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma, surprising many fans on Twitter.
Ishan Kishan, who was playing well and was asked to open for the first time in T20I cricket, was replaced at the top of the order by Rishabh Pant.
Pant missed the Indian team’s first game on Thursday but made an appearance at Edgbaston. A few days prior, the Indian wicketkeeper made a remarkable contribution at the same venue by scoring 150 in the rescheduled Test. With a century and a half-century against England in the Edgbaston Test, Pant has been the finest Indian batsman. Although it wasn’t enough to help India win, everyone admired his batting performance.
In T20I cricket, India has been beginning with Kishan in KL Rahul‘s absence, who is out due to injury. Ishan Kishan kept his berth as the opener even after Rohit Sharma was reinstated for the opening T20I against England on Thursday.
Despite having played the role in domestic T20s, Pant has never opened in the T20I format of the game.
Before Richard Gleeson removed him for 26 runs off 15 deliveries, Rishabh got off to a good start during the second T20I series on Saturday.
Jordan dismissed Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, while Gleeson also got rid of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. India got out to a quick start because to Rohit and Pant, but Gleeson subsequently gave England the upper hand. As Team India looks to win the second match of the three-match series against the hosts , the match is crucial.
