Recently, film maker Leena Manimekalai shared the poster of her new documentary, “KAALI”. Which shows Goddess Kali smoking and also appears to be holding the flag of the LGBTQIA+ community.
This led to a great controversey in the nation as netizens have condemned the poster while some have opted for legal prosecution by registering a case against the film maker.
A recent uproar started on a controversial post given by a theatre director. Moreover, where the actor is seen wearing the costume of goddess Kaali and smoking a cigarette. Twitter had taken down the tweet of Leena Manimekalai in this context on July 2.
Replying to push back from Twitter, Leena Manimekalai had asked the question of whether Twitter would also withhold posts from “hate-mongers”. “This is hilarious. Will @TwitterIndia withhold the tweets of the 200000 hate mongers?! These lowlife trolls tweeted and spread the very same poster that they find objectionable. Kaali cannot be lynched. Kaali cannot be raped. Kaali cannot be destroyed. She is the goddess of death”. Hence, she wrote.
No clarity has yet been found on when the post was taken down by Twitter India. “This Tweet from @LeenaManimekali has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand,” read the message.

Leena Manimekalai further clapped back at netizens by sharing a candid picture of artists post their performance. Whom she confirms are not from her film and apparently “chill” after their performances. The image shows two actors dressed as Hindu deities still in their getup and allegedly smoking outside. She further called out her protestors and their actions as “religious bigotry”.
BJP payrolled troll army have no idea about how folk theatre artists chill post their performances. This is not from my film. This is from everyday rural India that these sangh parivars want to destroy with their relentless hate & religious bigotry. Hindutva can never become India. https://t.co/ZsYkDbfJhK
