The Union Government was yet to pay the GST dues of Maharashtra which ranges around Rs 26, 000 Crore. Lately, in March, the Maharashtra Minister of State for Finance, Shambhuraj Desai, was quoted while addressing the state legislative council, “It would be very helpful if the center clears the GST dues pending since 2019.” The Centre, however, cleared the GST dues of all the states. According to the reports, the center paid around Rs 86, 912 crores to the states. Maharashtra received Rs 14, 145 Crores for its outstanding GST dues pending with the center.

The reports also suggest that the GST compensation to the state till May 2022 is entirely cleared while the compensation for June 2022 remains. The decision to release the funds was taken in order to help the states in managing their resources. Only Rs 25, 000 crores is available in the GST compensation fund. The dues are cleared from its pending collections of Cess.
