Man City maintain their calm in Madrid to advance to the Champions League semi-finals, however, Pep Guardiola admits the triumph came as a consequence of a fraught battle versus Atletico; Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker will be examined before Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final versus Liverpool at Wembley.
After seeming to suffer a muscular injury whilst chasing the ball down, De Bruyne looked to limp off uncomfortably. Kyle Walker crashed hard on his ankle just several shortly afterwards and was reluctant to resume despite his utmost tries. Guardiola would be anxious ahead of City’s FA Cup semi-final versus Liverpool since there is no direct substitute for the English player in the team (Nathan Ake being his alternative in the Wanda).
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reckons his treble-chasing side is in “big trouble” entering into the closing stages of the season owing to injuries incurred in their Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid. City progressed to the semi-finals again for the third time in club history following a 0 – 0 draw in Madrid clinched a 1-0 aggregate advantage and lined up a clash with 13-time champions Real Madrid.
However, with the FA Cup semi-final versus Liverpool waiting on Saturday, City’s advancement came at the expense, with Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker pushed out injured, and Phil Foden receiving a wrap to his head at the Wanda Metropolitano.
“We are in big trouble,” Guardiola said to BT Sport. “We cannot forget we played three days ago a tough game against Liverpool. We came here, we have a lot of injuries.”
Guardiola’s squad stands an opportunity to clinch a treble although their advantage at the top of the Premier League is a lone point, and the next month and a half will characterize their overall season.
