A fresh line of sanctions has been released by the Australian Government to destabilize the Russian Federation. On Thursday Australia slapped focused financial sanctions targeting 14 Kremlin state-owned entities which are of strategic and economic prominence to Vladimir Putin’s Moscow.

This decision comes in line with its global allies deciding to bring down Russia for its brutal offensive against Ukraine. Russian defence sector, shipping sector, electronics sectors, all of these have come into the fold of sanctions by the Canberra Government.

These severe Australian sanctions have particularly targeted the shipping entities namely United Shipbuilding and Sevmash. And Sevmash is Russia’s pride it is the largest builder of ships and Russia’s only nuclear submarine manufacturer. In the year 2009, Sevmash appointed 26,951 employees, and its earnings from military production were evaluated at $533 million.

The sanctions were targeted at Ruselectronics which manufactures almost 80% of the Kremlin’s electronic components, a transport giant Kamaz which is one of the top 20 in the world to manufacture heavy-duty trucks in Russia, and railways behemoth Russian Railways which is the lifeline of Russian transportation since 19th century, as per Marise Payne, Australia’s Foreign Minister.

Australia not only sanctioned Russia but also sanctioned its ally Belarus for jointly targeting Ukraine from both sides. Almost 600 prominent individuals including the Russian President Vladimir Putin, oligarchs, senior officials, and military generals came into the fold.

Since the Ukraine crisis, Australia has sent more than the Australian dollars 180 million which if converted stands at US dollars 136 million. Australia also deployed artillery and gave humanitarian aid to Ukraine among various other aids to show it highly criticized Putin’s gruesome attack.
