The Russo-Ukraine war is testing everyone’s friendship time and again. This time around Germany is finding it hard whether to invite India to attend the G7 summit it is going to host in June this year.
Germany was very unhappy with India staying mute during the UN Security Council vote against Russia for its offensive against Ukraine. The list of Germany so far includes South Africa, Senegal, and Indonesia, and the list is yet to get a concrete shape. India still hasn’t made it to the list However before the Russo-Ukraine crisis began it was part of the list.
India abstained from voting against Russia and was among 45 other countries to have taken a neutral stance at the UN vote to oust Russia from the UN Human Rights Council. India is yet to impose sanctions against Russia. It is a significant trade partner of Russia, for importing Russian Defense systems to combat China and Pakistan when the time comes.
“As soon as the list gets finalized, we shall reveal the guest list”, revealed government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit.
“Olaf Scholz wants to see as many international members as possible at the Summit who together will sanction Russia and destabilize it”, Steffen further added.
Germany heavily depends on Russian oil imports to run its factories and hence was criticized by Ukraine and Poland for buying Russian energy, However, Germany has worked out a plan to reduce this dependence and seek other amiable countries for its energy supply.
Since the Russia-Ukraine crisis, several G7 nations have sanctioned Russia and few have sent artillery and military aid to Ukraine. They have asked other nations to sanction and destabilize Russia. However, several nations in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East have maintained a neutral stance against sanctioning Russia.
