Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan’s position of power could be derailed today. The National Assembly of Pakistan and Pakistan’s Supreme Court will together stage the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan’s government.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court has chaired a 5-judge bench on Thursday to bring down Imran Khan’s long-time friend and National Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri for dismissing the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.
In a simple storytelling style, lets join the dots of Pakistan’s current political turmoil and how did Imran Khan reach this page of crisis in his tenure.
With Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)winning the maximum votes, Imran Khan’s PTI forms the government in 2018. PTI along with MQM-P, BAP, and PML-Q runs the government in 2018.
However, the Opposition felt its now high time that this government has to change.
So several National Assembly patrons along with a few others from the PTI party leave and join the Opposition to stage a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan’s government.
Imran Khan’s alarm bells ring hard in his head as he feels that he might lose his position of power. So he decides to address his nation and says a foreign office threatened him. In a slip of tongue fashion, he blurts out the United States of America’s name stating that the US has conspired against him. He said that Biden Administration was very unhappy when he visited Vladimir Putin’s Russia just the day he unleashed an offensive against Ukraine.
He later apologized and took his statement back that it wasn’t the US that conspired against him for was unhappy with him, but some other foreign office.
However in his blurted statement Imran Khan mentioned receiving a diplomatic letter from the Americans stating that if he loses the no-confidence motion, Pakistan will be spared, if he doesn’t lose the no-confidence motion and continues to run his office Pakistan will face severe consequences.
Now whether the US conspired against Pakistan’s Prime Minister or not, the Opposition had already decided to bring down Imran Khan’s office with a no-confidence vote and replace him with former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s brother Shehbaz Sharif.
Shehbaz Sharif is none other than the Opposition Party leader and Pakistan always never ceases to amaze us.
So Imran Khan hurriedly seeks help from his long-time friend Qasim Khan Suri who is the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. On 3rd April, Qasim Khan Suri uses his position of power and dismisses the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan’s government at the National Assembly. Imran Khan continues to cling to his power of position.
Not only did Qasim Khan Suri dismiss the vote against his friend Imran Khan but also parroted the same line and stated, “No international force can interfere with the affairs of Pakistan and topple an elected government using a baseless conspiracy.” Soon after this statement went public Imran Khan without any delay addresses his nation and declared new elections. He asks President Arif Alvi to end the current National Assembly.

So upon Imran Khan’s directive, President Arif Alvi crushes the National Assembly to dust.
Now we wonder what was the judiciary system of Pakistan doing when all these manipulations were being staged?
So the Supreme Court of Pakistan steps in. Umar Ata Bandial the Chief Justice of Pakistan takes his own initiative to take the cases of both Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri and President Arif Alvi in dismissing the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan at the National Assembly and crushing the National Assembly to non-existence respectively.
Then several rounds of discussions were orchestrated and finally questions like can the Supreme Court meddle with Pakistan’s Parliamentary activities? The answer came loud and strong in the form of the apex court reviving the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan to be staged.
After a detailed investigation, the apex court kept cases of abuse of power of both Qasim Khan Suri and President Alvi aside and brought the National Assembly back to life, and asked the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan’s government to continue as per schedule. and this will be held today 9th April 2022.
Now if the balance scales don’t tick to Imran Khan’s side today, Imran Khan loses his seat as Pakistan’s PM and probably Shehbaz Sharif will replace him.
