Real Madrid on Thursday, dusted off Chelsea 3-1 at the Champions League first leg as Kai Harvetz’s goal was not enough to dominate Karim Benzema’s stunning hat trick, 2 goals in the first half and one in the second.

The Blues, who are now on the brink of elimination previously lost to Brentford with a score of 1-4 while Los Blancos are now in pole position to advance into the semifinals where they will either fight against Manchester City or Atletico Madrid.

34-year-old Benzema has now netted 37 goals in 36 matches in all competitions for Real Madrid this season. The France international had previously terminated Paris Saint Germain at the knockouts stage with his brilliant hat trick for an epic comeback for his side. Following his tremendous form, boss Carlo Ancelotti praised the team and the Frenchman. “He is getting better every day like wine. We played well. It was a good night,” told Ancelotti, reported Agence France-Presse. 

The two teams will next be in action against each other for the return leg on Wednesday, April 13, 12:30 am IST at Santiago Bernabeu.
