The world of football came crashing and crumbling down with the announcement of the institution of the European Super League, consisting of combining a league around the elite clubs in Europe. However, the fans were quick to point out the economic interests behind the move and the interest from major clubs quickly died down.

Laporta, despite the backlashes received in response to its introduction, is pushing, once again for its re-incarnation with the motion that most premier league clubs were interested and that they were waiting to see if a new format for the competition would be allowed.

“It is an open Super League, no longer closed, it has evolved. It will surely be the most attractive league in the world”, said Laporta in the confidence in an interview with Spanish radio station RAC 1 about the league coming into existence with the belief that UEFA and Champions League will form a dialogue in response to the format of the Super League.

However, Al-Khelaifi, the PSG President and European Clubs Association Chairman has outrightly denied the existence and potential for its resurgence. “Everybody is against it – from the fans, the media, clubs, small and big clubs. They [Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid] are three only. I don’t think there’s a way that they potentially can do something like this [resurrect the Super League] because we are here united”, said Al-Khelaifi through BBC Sports as six former teams who were interested had already withdrawn from the pool.

The annual estimates of revenue have been declared false by the PSG President and he is in support of the condemnation of such moves which are particular to the financial interests of football. The matter is set to go to the European Court of Justice to judge whether UEFA’s control of European football is in direct consequence of the competition law, forming a monopoly of power and shall be decided only then.
