Dhoni is the second most successful captain of IPL and he has made Chennai Super Kings the winner thrice under his captaincy. Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians holds the record for winning the most titles.
Under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians have won the title four times. Dhoni may have lagged behind Rohit in this matter, but even today there are some records of IPL which are recorded in the name of only and only Dhoni. Let’s have a look at these-
1. Record of winning most matches as a captain
As a captain in the Indian Premier League, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has won more matches than any other captain. He has won 104 matches for the team under his captaincy. Chennai Super Kings has won 99 matches under his captaincy, while he has won five matches for Rising Pune Giants. Under his captaincy, Chennai Super Kings have won the title thrice.
2. Most catches in IPL
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni holds the record for most dismissals in IPL. He has played a total of 190 matches and in this he has played a role in sending players to the pavilion 132 times. This includes 94 catches and 38 stumpings. The other wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik is very close to him and he has so far taken a total of 131 wickets in the IPL.
3. Most stumpings in IPL
Mahendra Singh Dhoni holds the record for most stumpings in IPL. He has stumped the batsman a total of 38 times and has shown the way to the pavilion. Dinesh Karthik is at number two in this case and he has stumped the batsman a total of 30 times. Dhoni is considered to be very fast in terms of stumping. Once during a match against Australia, Dhoni stumped Kangaroo batsman George Bailey in just 0.09 seconds.
4. Highest appearance in finals as a player
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has the most experience of playing IPL finals. He has played nine out of 12 IPL final matches so far and during this time his team has been able to win the final match thrice. While Dhoni has played nine final matches for Chennai Super Kings, he has got a chance to play one final match for Rising Pune Supergiants. Suresh Raina is at number two in this list, who has played eight final matches.
5. Record of playing most matches as captain
MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian team, holds the record for playing the most matches as a captain in the history of IPL. He has captained a team in IPL 118 times. While he has captained Chennai Super Kings in 104 matches, Rising Pune Supergiants has captained in 14 matches.
