British author JK Rowling author of the world-famous Harry Potter series is receiving considerable backlash from the LGBT community and it’s supporters due to her recent views that she shared on twitter regarding transgender society.

Rowling states, “…I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make natal girls and women less safe. When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman – and, as I’ve said, gender confirmation certificates may now be granted without any need for surgery or hormones – then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside.”   In another incident, she wrote an article titled –  “Creating a more equal post- Covid-19 world for people who menstruate’’ and had argued, over a Twitter thread, that “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.” It has been reported that there have been several other incidents where the author liked a few of the tweets that were against the trans struggle and movement.

Basically, it seems like a clash between two sets of ideologies; the LGBT transgender activists argue against the view that the gender identity and biological sex are distinct from each other and should be recognized as such, whereas, a certain group of feminists contests over the view that through disowning biological sex, the discrimination against women as sex is being perpetuated.

Subsequently, The Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet along with the other few of the biggest  Harry Potter fan sites  released a joint statement that ‘’Rowling’s views on “marginalized people (are) out of step with the message of acceptance and empowerment we find in her books and celebrated by the Harry Potter community.” Actors such as Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and Daniel Radcliffe have also condemned the anti-transgender views by the author.

Therefore, it is imperative to have a non-biased lookout on the ideologies of both sections of societies involved in the matter and accordingly form a conclusion.
