The winners of the Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for February 2022 were announced on March 14, 2022 by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shreyas Iyer of India and all-rounder Amelia Kerr of New Zealand were the winners.
Shreyas Iyer earned the award for his outstanding performance in the limited-overs series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka at home. He won the monthly award over UAE batter Vriitya Aravind and Nepal all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee.
The right-hander hit a match-winning 80 in the third ODI against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, completing a 3-0 series sweep, and followed it up with a quick 16-ball 25 in the last game of the three-match T20I series in Kolkata, which also ended in a 3-0 sweep.
Iyer has continued his good form this month, scoring 92 runs in the first innings and 67 runs in the second innings of the current pink-ball second Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru, after scoring 27 runs in the first Test at Mohali.
Amelia Kerr was picked for the prize ahead of other contenders Mithali Raj, India’s captain, and all-rounder Deepti Sharma.
The Wellington native is already regarded as one of the finest female cricketers of our time.
Kerr demonstrated excellent abilities throughout the ODI leg to further establish herself as a world-class player after hitting 17 and returning 2/25 in New Zealand’s 18-run triumph in the sole T20I.
With 353 runs at an astounding average of 117.67 and seven wickets at an economy of 5.78, she completed the ODI series as the leading run scorer.
