In the midst of the increasing conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Monday, February 28, that Ukraine is willing to free prisoners with prior military experience if they want to fight Russia.

The Ukrainian President also requested that the European Union allow Ukraine to join under a special procedure while it protects itself against the Russian military.

Zelenskiy shared a video speech on social media in which he said, “Our goal is to be with all Europeans and, most importantly, to be equal. I`m sure that`s fair. I am sure we deserve it.”

While appealing to Russian forces to end the fight, Zelenskyy added, “Save your life and go.”

Meanwhile, peace negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegates began at the Belarus border point to work out a way to deescalate the continuing armed conflict, marking a significant move and the first step toward ending the war.

Notably, Russia also responded to the West’s backing for Ukraine throughout the conflict.

On Monday, Moscow accused the European Union of being extremely hostile towards Russia, claiming that arms deliveries to Ukraine were hazardous and destabilizing, proving that Russia was correct in its attempts to demilitarize its neighbour.

Moscow said, “The West has stepped up arms supplies to Ukraine in order to help it defend against a Russian invasion that Moscow calls a “special military operation” aimed at protecting civilians.”
