Ongole, Feb 25 (UNI) Prakasam District Collector Pravin Kumar said that a special call centre had been set up at the District Collector’s office to help Telugu students who had been struck in Ukraine. In a statement here on Friday the Collector said that the call centre, which operates on 1077, is open 24 hours a day. The call centre has been available since midnight on Friday. The Collector said that the parents and relatives of the students who were struck in Ukraine in the war situation could get information and assistance by calling the number. He said that the details of the students who were in Ukraine would be sent to the government and steps would be taken to provide them assistance, he said. Meanwhile, Guntur MP Galla Jayadev said that he had written a letter to Union Foreign Minister Jayashankar seeking the safe repatriation of Telugu students stranded in Ukraine, as well as students from Guntur district, in the wake of the Ukraine crisis. He said that he had urged the MEA to make suitable arrangements for the evacuation of students residing in Ukraine and their return to India by special flights. He appealed to the Union Minister to bring them safely without any threat to them. “There are about 40 MBBS students from Guntur in Ukraine. The parents of the students are panicking in the current circumstances. The closure of the international airport and the declaration of Ukraine as a no-fly zone have left many Indians stranded in Ukraine”, he said.
