The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) is set to begin on February 5 as the intensity of spikes, digs, and blocks will surely create an impact over the years in the nation which statistically is bounded only by a few sports in interest. It is time for India to witness a super clash in this passionate tournament of a unique sport Volleyball.
Beginning on February 5, the tournament comprises 24 matches including 3 knock-out matches with the players divided into seven teams – Calicut Heroes, Kochi Blue Spikers, Ahmedabad Defenders, Hyderabad Black Hawks, Chennai Blitz, Bengaluru Torpedoes, and Kolkata Thunderbolts.
The opening match is between Hyderabad Black Hawks and Kochi Blue Spikers on February 5. Few celebrities including actor R Madhavan have shared their thoughts for pushing the sport which everyone has played at a point in time in their life. Before the exciting tournament starts here are some of the ground rules for the fans to understand the game a little better and get comfortable while witnessing the action of efforts and passion.

The league is a complete round-robin tournament with the format of Top 4. The tournament comprises 24 matches which include 3 knock-out games as well. Starting on February 5, here are some of the basic rules of the Volleyball sport:
The volleyball court is rectangular with the length being 18m while the width being 9m. The free zones occupy 3m wide on all sides.
Libero is a name given to the unique defensive player who wears a different colour jersey and cannot block or attack the ball when it is above the net height.
The game is played under the supervision of Match Officials which is comprised of 1st and 2nd match referees, match commissioner, the scorer, assistant scorer, and the line judges.
The court includes a penalty area which is located behind the prolongation of the end line. There are numerous zones as well which are generally known as front zone, substitute zone, free zone, back zone, libero replacement zone.
6 player by each team initiates the game with the basic formation being 3 at front and 3 at back. Serving is the act of putting the ball in play by any player whereas spiking, smashing, and blocking are three major actions by the players.
