During the England tour of India in 2008, the then English captain, Kevin Pietersen had called Indian former cricketer, Yuvraj Singh a ‘pie-chucker’. The war of words continued over time between both players, as Yuvraj took a subtle dig at Kevin the next year during the T20 World Cup in England when the Indian left-handed batsman said that he will deliver pies to him because he always gets him out.
After 13 years, KP opened up on the pie-chucker comment in a video for the Legends League Cricket where he and other former cricket stars are currently playing. KP unveils the reason behind labelling Yuvraj with pie-chucker, insisting that playing against him was always an issue.
Pietersen said that playing against Yuvraj’s left-arm spin was always an issue, but when Yuvraj came on, he thought that is the chance to score. Then Yuvraj started knocking KP over which made him frustrated. KP further said that his favourite shot against the Yuvraj was the forward defensive block which he believes can get past the pie-chucker.
“I called Yuvraj a pie-chucker purely based on the fact that he knocked me over a couple of times and I didn’t want to tell the rest of the world that he was any good. it was that rubbish provider you play with. You think I m bigger than the other player and try and force yourself on the opposition and he comes back at you”, said KP in an llct20 Instagram video.
Towards the end of the video, KP also added that he and Yuvraj are “very very close friends” and that the pie-chucker incident was fun at the time.
