After being applauded for his amazing performance in the South korean series, Squid Game on Netflix, Anupam Tripathi is ready and willing to perform infront of his home audience in India. Anupam Tripathi is a Delhi-born actor. In the respective series, he plays as no. 199, Ali Abdul, a debt-distressed immigrant who is in desperate need of money. As a result, the character takes part in the Squid Game.
Anupam landed this role when he came back to South Korea after a break. The role needed him to gain 5-6 kilos, as Ali is a physically strong and buff character. He told variety “At that time I didn’t have the correct body shape because I had just come back after eating home food, and once they said, ‘OK you are doing this character,’ I was like OK now I have to put on weight, I have to work for it.”
Anupam has had prior experience of working in k-dramas as he had played small roles in some, including the popular “Descendants of The Sun”. Allegedly, he had plans of studying at the National School of Drama. However, he got a scholarship in the Korea National University of the Arts in 2010.
The very talented actor wants to work in India. He wants to express himself in this own language and explore the entertainment field infront of his own audience: “I’ve done theater only in India, but I want to see and explore how I will do in my own language,” stated Anupam. “I would love to express myself there. That is my ultimate dream – to perform in front of my own home and own audience,” he said.
Mentioning about the Squid Game, the show became amazingly popular all over the world as the audience loved the dramatic scenes and the human realistic messages behind the drama. It is a nine-episode series that revolves around 450-odd contestants playing to win a jackpot. All these contestants are people who are neck deep in debt or desperate for money and thrill. The ones who fail to win, die. This survival-based drama also portrays human greed for money, that they would go as far as killing each other for it.
