On matchday 9 of the Ligue 1, Paris saint-Germain loses the match 2-0 to Rennes. Despite the big names of the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe all in the starting lineup for PSG which was not enough to ensure a victory.

PSG who began the game aggressively with Neymar and Mbappe flashing some early chances above the bar and Messi hitting the crossbar with his freekick in the 31st minute it was Rennes who opened up the scoring with Laborte scoring at the 45th minute by scoring a volley past the PSG keeper with the score of 1-0 at the half time whistle. Things then went from bad to worse for PSG at the start of the second half as Flavien Tait doubled the score and inflict more damage to the Paris Saint-Germain side. Kylian Mbappe thought that he had pulled one back for PSG when he found the bottom corner of the goal only to be ruled out by VAR.
With 10 minutes remaining, Rennes was awarded a penalty when Hakimi fouled Laborde but after checking the war monitor the referee turned his decision around as the game ended with Rennes winning by a score of 2-0. This is the first loss for Paris Saint-Germain in the league as Rennes spoils their 100 per cent record of the season.
This defeat came after the impressive performance by PSG in the champions league where they beat the reigning champions of England Manchester city which saw Lionel Messi scoring his first goal in the Paris Saint-Germain shirt.
