UEFA have now doubled the prize fund for the 2020 Women’s European Championship to 16 million euros and have also guaranteed an increase in payments for the qualified 16 team. The footballing European governing body had also approved the introduction of a program that will ensure that teams that release players for the Euros will be rewarded with payouts from a 4.5 million euro fund.

The decision was announced after a UEFA executive committee meeting in Chisinau, Moldova while stating that the financial scheme for the distribution will be made available soon as announced earlier today by the governing body. The women’s competition was originally scheduled to take place this year but was held for a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now set to take place in the country of England from the 6th of July 2022. UEFA has approved the changes to its solidarity payment scheme for the men’s teams not taking part in the 2021-2024 cycle of club competitions. UEFA have said that there would be an increase in shares for all associations that are outside the top five European footballing countries which include England, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. The move is said to have come after UEFA snubbed off the attempts made by the top 12 European clubs earlier this year in hope of forming a breakaway European Super League.
