Just 8 minutes into the first half of the London derby, Eric Dier hits the deck after a collision with Jordan Ayew due to a loose pass for the Spurs skipper Hugo Lloris. Dier showed signs of discomfort and was eventually subbed off in the 11th minute for the Welsh international Joe Rodon.
Huge blow for Spurs defensively as they were left with no choice but to make three changes to their starting eleven with central defender Davinson Sanchez who had to be left due to COVID quarantine rules as he was involved with the Columbian national team during the international break. Steven Berwijn and Son Heung-Min were sidelined due to injuries they had picked up on international duty.
The defensive trouble added for the North London club as Japhet Tanganga was shown a second yellow card in quick secession for his late challenge on Ayew in the 58th minute of the game. Harry Winks was sacrificed to bring on Ben Davies off the bench to fill the gap in the four-man defensive line due to the sending off.
Ben Davies was penalised for a handball in the penalty area to give Palace a spot-kick in the 75th minute. Wilfried Zaha slotted his penalty down the middle of the goal sending Lloris to his right. This was the first home goal the Palace fans witnessed this season.
The 84th minute saw the debut of Odsonne Edouard for Crystal Palace after his move for the Scottish giants, Celtic Football Club. The 23-year-old had a dream start by scoring within seconds after coming on courtesy of Zaha’s pullback pass to set it up for him. Edouard went on to the 3rd minute of added time to find the back of the net once again to secure victory for his new club at Selhurst Park.
