Jaskaran Malhotra, an Indian-origin cricketer who plays for the U.S. national team had an eye-catching outing earlier today against Papua New Guinea. The 31-year-old batsman stands as the overall fourth cricketer to hit six sixes in an over during the final over of the USA innings. Malhotra remained not-out on the total of 173 runs in 124 deliveries that included 4 fours and a whopping 16 sixes.
The Chandigarh born batsman had arrived on the field while his side were on 29 runs and 3 wickets down. Due to his efforts, the team total tallied up to 271 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 50 over which seemed like a big task to ask of their opponents after they were reduced down to 57 runs for 3 wickets in 15 overs of the second innings.
Malhotra overtook the former South African and RCB batsman AB de Villiers while accumulating the highest score by a number 5 batsman in an ODI format of the game during his knock. The previous record held by de Villiers was his 162 runs in 66 balls against the West Indies at the 2015 World Cup.
Malhotra’s six sixes now sees him with the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Herschelle Gibbs and Kieron Pollard who hold the record as well.
