UEFA 2020/21 men’s player of the season is going to be announced and Chelsea’s duo Kante and Jorginho have been nominated along with Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, the European football’s governing body took the call on Thursday.
Since the 11 years of existence of this award, this is the first time that mid-fielders are shortlisted as they all topped the midfield criteria with great points. The winner is going to be announced on 26th August, Thursday in Istanbul where the draw for the Champion’s League will also take place.
Chelsea’s midfield duo Jorginho and Kante helped the club to beat Manchester City by 1-0 in the final of the Champions League whereas Jorginho also helped his team Italy to grab the Euro 2020 Trophy.
These nominations were selected by a jury comprised of coaches of 24 National Teams who took part in Euro 2020 along with 80 coaches of the clubs that were part of the group stage of the Champions League and Europa League in the last season. Not only this but one journalist each from the 55 member associations of UEFA is bound to be the part of the Selection Committee while the winner is being announced.
Lionel Messi who recently left his part from FC Barcelona and is Six time Ballon D’or winner was fourth on the list.
