Actor Simu Liu was not very happy with Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s comments on the Marvel Movie about to hit the theatres, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Recently, Chapek spoke to Disney investors mentioning the movie as an “interesting experiment”. Lou took it to Twitter to call out these comments and implied that Asian representation in cinema should not be an ” experiment” in any way.
Liu’s tweet said, “We are not an experiment” along with four snapshots from the behind the scenes of Shang Chi.
Liu has taken up the role of the main superhero in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, an adaptation of the successful Marvel Comics. Liu will make history as the first main hero to be of the East Asian Descent.
The movie is expected to assist in wrapping up the diverse elements of the MCU dimension all at once. Chapel confirmed in a Disney Q3 Earning Call that Shang Chi will have an exclusive theatrical release which means it won’t be available on any streaming platform despite the Covid crisis.
According to a Screen Rant report, Chapek meant the strategy to be an “experiment” for Disney but the fans of the actor did not appreciate the film being called an economic experiment either.
Chapek claimed this experiment as “unconnected”. However, according to Liu’s comments, it’s apparent that Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings which premiers on Friday, Sept 3 in the theatres would be a blockbuster.
