Independence Day 2021: India is celebrating its 75th year of Independence, today and Google has contributed to this day with a special doodle. On August 15, 1947, India became free from the shackles of colonial rule and emerged as a sovereign nation.

Today’s Google Doodle illustrates the diverse range of traditional forms of dance. From the classical Bharatnatyam positioned on the utmost left to the ancient 3000 years Indian dance style depicted with its origin from the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The pictorial representation includes masked reenactments adopted from epics like Chhau dance originated from the eastern state of Bengal, the Purulia Chau, and the Seraikella Chau regions, as per Google.

Today’s Google Doodle, illustrated by Kolkata-based guest artist Sayan Mukherjee, beautifully expressed in its true instinct the feeling India’s Independence struggle and its cultural traditions carried forward through centuries.

For those who are unaware of the doodle concept. The Google Doodle dates back to 2003, wherein it replaced its ‘O’ by the Ashok Chakra and the Indian National flag waving in an animated pattern among with the letter ‘L’.

The doodle featured illustration included variegated iconic Indian folk instruments: the tutari, shehnai, dhol, veena, sarangi and bansuri. “From the versatile double-reeded shehnai to the resonant stringed sarangi, these instruments are but a few that makeup India’s rich musical legacy, which dates back over 6,000 years…The musical diversity represented by this unique collection reflects the patchwork of Indian cultures that is celebrated across the nation today,” the company had stated while proclaiming the news.
