The arrival of Lionel Messi at Paris Saint Germain has created a positive state of mind at the Ligue 1 club however he is most likely not going to have any impact in Saturday’s home game against Strasbourg as he is yet to be fit said the head coach Mauricio Pochettino according to Reuters.
In Friday’s news conference ahead of the league fixture after Messi joined PSG from Barcelona earlier in the week, Pochettino claimed that his first job was to ensure an elegant and star-studded outfit begin to look the sum of its parts. PSG had lost out on the race to lift the French league title to Lille last season and were knocked out of the Champions League semi-finals by Manchester City despite having the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria in their squad.
Adding Messi to the mix will have raised expectations among the fans and the board at the Qatari-owned club, whose administration have put vigorously in a bid to see the club win their first title in Europe’s biggest club competition.
The former Tottenham boss who took over the role of head coach at PSG midway through last season in January struck a note of caution after Lionel Messi arrived from Barcelona, his only previous professional club.
“Our challenge now is to ensure all of these top players form a team capable of meeting all the challenges ahead of it,” said Pochettino as quoted by Reuters. “We want to make sure that this team becomes a strong unit” added the PSG boss.
