Man Kaur passed away at the Dera Bassi Hospital near Mohali due to a heart attack. She was diagnosed with gallbladder and was suffering from liver cancer previously this year. The athlete from Punjab was going through treatment at the hospital.
“Yes, she breathed her last at about 1.00 pm today. She had been suffering from liver and gall bladder cancers and we have been seeking treatment at the Dera Bassi hospital since the last one month. She had shown signs of recovery and was in good health till yesterday,” told Kaur’s 83-year-old son who is also an athlete Gurdev Singh confirming about her mother’s death to The Indian Express.
Kaur won the world masters championship gold medal six times and gained several Asian Masters Championship medals. She with her husband moved to Chandigarh in the 1960s. She earned her first medal in the sprint at the Chandigarh Masters Athletics meet in the year 2007 followed by her another gold medal record in the 100m and 200 m race at the National Masters Athletics contest in the year 2011.
The sprinter timed one minute and 14:58 seconds and earned the record of the oldest victor in the contest’s history followed by her record of becoming the oldest person to skywalk at the sky tower of Auckland.
