United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) second flag carrier, Etihad Airways announced the extension of suspension of flights from India till 2nd August 2021 on microblogging site Twitter. The dates might be extended if the authorities order to do so.

The decision comes after Emirates on Friday, in line with directives from the UAE government, extended its ban on flights from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka as well as India to Dubai till July 28.

Emirates had stated that the passengers who had connected through any of the four South Asian nations in the last fourteen days were not allowed to travel from any point to the country.

It added, “UAE Nationals, holders of UAE Golden Visas and members of diplomatic missions who comply with updated COVID-19 protocols, are exempt and may be accepted for travel.”

Additionally, the statement had informed that the Dubai-based airline’s contact centres were experiencing a greater volume of calls than they do on a regular basis. “If your call is not related to travel within the next 48 hours, please consider calling back later”, it continued.

Previously, Emirates had banned flights from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh till July 15 following the UAE’s announcement of suspension of flights from fourteen countries including Pakistan, which was expected to end by July 21. The announcement was made by the country’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
