The British number one is into the second round after an incredible straight-set victory over the Spaniard Lopez, who has appeared at every Grand Slam event since 2002 which is 77 Slams.
“It was great, thanks to everybody for coming out. It’s amazing to be back and to play at Wimbledon. It was really great for the comeback and u did not realise it would be as busy. So happy to win l, I played some good tennis. I am delighted and I am contented how I came through,” said Evans.
I enjoyed for the last two sets. In the first, I was a bit too into myself and when I let go, I got rolling. I was patient at last. I dragged the game at last and that was a good mental effort for today. I am working on my game to get to that place. It’s been working well,” he added.
British professional, Evans went toe-to-toe and took the first set 7-4 in the tie break. He was two sets up and he never lost a match while leading with a 2-0.
Spanish professional confronted forcefully in the third set but was saved by Evans as he denied two break points in the seventh game and came back 6-5. After missing two, it ended upsetting the three times quarter-finalist of All England Club, Feliciano Lopez.
