All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has maintained a staunch position against the order issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) earlier today. It seems the TMC leader will once again lock horns with the EC as she has decided to protest against the alleged “undemocratic and unconstitutional decision” adopted by the polling committee.

“To protest against the undemocratic and unconstitutional decision of the Election Commission of India, I will sit on dharna tomorrow at Gandhi Murti, Kolkata from 12 noon”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday, as reported by the news agency ANI.

The recent development comes after the Election Commission imposed a ban of 24 hours on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee from election campaigning. The ban will be imposed from 8 PM on 12th April to 8 PM on April 13, 2021, reported ANI.

The firing at TMC leaders in Cooch Behar, on Saturday, sparked tensions in West Bengal leading to political outbursts across the entire state. In its response to the clashes between the TMC and BJP workers last weekend, EC ordered a 72-hr ban on entry of any political leader in the district.

The EC also directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to deploy 71 more CAPF companies for the upcoming four phases of elections in West Bengal.

However, Mamata Banerjee retaliated to the Election Commission’s order on Sunday and slammed the constitutional authority for its decision.

“EC should rename MCC as Modi Code of Conduct! BJP can use all its might but NOTHING in this world can stop me from being with my people & sharing their pain. They can restrict me from visiting my brothers & sisters in Cooch Behar for 3 days but I WILL be there on the 4th day!” the West Bengal chief minister wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

Previously, the West Bengal Chief Minister landed in trouble while addressing a rally in Hooghly on April 3. During the same, she appealed to the Muslim voters to unite against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and not let their vote be split, reported news agency ANI.
