On Wednesday, March 31, fire broke out in the ICU ward of Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi which leads to shifting of 50 patients to other wards. A total of nine fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control.
According to the news agency ANI, around 50 patients shifted to other wards in the hospital and no casualty has been reported in the the incident.
In a statement, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital said, “A minor fire incident occurred in Medicine ward 11(HDU) today morning probably due to high voltage fluctuations & a short circuit. All patients admitted in HDU & ward were evacuated. There was no loss of life. The fire was controlled immediately,” as quoted by ANI.

A fire call was received today morning around 6.35 am for Safdarjung Hospital. The fire was reported from the ICU of the hospital,” said DFS chief.
Preliminary inquiry from the spot of fire showed the beds and medical equipment of the ICU ward covered in soot with no major visible damage.
