Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned political violence and sent his best wishes to former President Donald Trump following a second assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate. The comments come in the wake of a shocking incident at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

On Sunday, Secret Service agents intervened when they spotted a man, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Routh, appearing to target Trump with a rifle. Authorities quickly apprehended Routh, who is a noted supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. Fortunately, Trump was unharmed.

In a post on social media platform X, Zelenskyy expressed relief over Trump’s safety and unequivocally condemned the attempt. “I am glad that Donald Trump is safe and unharmed. My best wishes to him and his family,” Zelenskyy wrote. “This is our principle: the rule of law is paramount and political violence has no place anywhere in the world. We sincerely hope that everyone remains safe.”

This sentiment was echoed by President Joe Biden, who assured that the Secret Service would have “every resource” necessary to ensure Trump’s safety and condemned any form of political violence. Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed her concern, stating she was “deeply disturbed” by the attempt and urged for an end to such violence.

Routh, who has openly supported Ukraine and claimed to have fought there, was captured after a brief chase. His social media activity and interviews indicate a strong commitment to Ukraine’s defense, but his recent actions have drawn significant attention.

The incident marks the second assassination attempt on Trump in recent months, following a similar event in Pennsylvania in July. The FBI is investigating the motives behind Routh’s actions, and the Secret Service remains on high alert.

Zelenskyy’s statement emphasizes the importance of upholding democratic principles and condemning violence. “It is crucial that we support the rule of law and reject any acts of violence, irrespective of political affiliation,” Zelenskyy added.
