According to Odaily, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has flagged the Triada Trojan virus as one of the most advanced and dangerous malware threats currently targeting Android devices. In its latest form, the virus has become more sophisticated, embedding itself deep into the system framework of counterfeit or low-cost Android smartphones, making detection and removal increasingly difficult.
The Trojan infiltrates every process running on the device, allowing it to operate silently in the background. Once active, Triada gives hackers nearly full control over the infected phone, enabling a range of malicious actions.
Between March 13 and March 27, 2025, Kaspersky detected over 2,600 infected users, with the malware pre-installed on certain budget Android models. Victims were unaware that their devices came compromised straight out of the box.
The Trojan’s capabilities are alarming. It can:
- Steal cryptocurrency by replacing wallet addresses during transactions
- Alter phone numbers during calls or texts
- Hijack messaging apps like Telegram and TikTok to extract credentials
- Send unauthorized messages from the victim’s phone
- Compromise social media accounts
Kaspersky warns that this level of system-level intrusion, especially on cheaper smartphones with weaker hardware-level security, poses a serious threat to user privacy, financial security, and digital identity.
Experts advise users to avoid unverified or extremely low-priced Android smartphones and to rely on official app stores and regular software updates to minimize the risk of infection.
