A second season has already been approved and will begin filming, but an official release date for The Day of the Jackal (a new adaptation with Eddie Redmayne) has yet to be revealed.
The creator of the series, Ronan Bennett, has delegated the main writing responsibilities to David Harrower and will remain on board as an Executive Producer. Bennett is still heavily involved in the show’s production, but he won’t be writing or co-writing the episodes.
With outstanding ratings from viewers and one of Sky’s highest-performing original series, this led to the quick renewal of Season 2 in November 2024, both at Peacock and NBC.
The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Release Window
Filming began in early 2026 (around January), with production taking place across Europe, including locations in London, Budapest (Hungary), Croatia, and areas near Vienna (Austria). Given the typical production timeline for a high-production-value spy thriller like this (Season 1 filmed in 2023 and premiered in late 2024), a release is most likely in late 2026 or early 2027 on Peacock (US, with some episodes also on NBC) and Sky (UK/internationally). No trailer has been released yet.
The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Returning Cast
- Eddie Redmayne returns as the Jackal, the elite, elusive assassin.
- Úrsula Corberó as Nuria, the Jackal’s wife (a major focus after Season 1 events).
- Charles Dance as Timothy Winthrop, the billionaire financier/employer.
- Eleanor Matsuura as Zina Jansone, the liaison to the employer.
- Other likely returnees from Season 1 include Chukwudi Iwuji (Osita Halcrow), Lia Williams (Isabel Kirby), Sule Rimi (Paul Pullman), Jonjo O’Neill, and additional MI6/family characters, though not all have been explicitly confirmed yet.
Note on Lashana Lynch (Bianca Pullman): Her character’s fate in the Season 1 finale makes a return unlikely in the present timeline (spoilers: she does not survive in the show’s adaptation). Some fan speculation or outdated info exists, but official updates indicate she is not returning.
New Cast
- Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You, MLK/X) and Pablo Schreiber (Halo, Orange Is the New Black) join as series regulars in undisclosed roles. Details are being kept secret.
A full cast list is not yet available.
The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Plot Teases and Potential Twists (Spoiler-Light for Season 1)
Season 1 left us with major cliffhangers, including Jackal finding out that he was betrayed by someone he thought he could trust (Nuria); Jackal’s wife, Nuria, learned Jackal’s real identity and ran off with their son; and Jackal’s continued battles with various intelligence agencies, including the ones involved in his past.
Producers have hinted to David Redmayne about the following:
- The Jackal will continue to juggle two main goals: find and try to make things right with his family (Nuria and his son) while getting revenge or making those who betrayed him pay back (especially Winthrop and his friends). As Redmayne said, “One of the things that really bothers the Jackal is when there are loose ends!”
- Expect a lot of excitement—lots of unexpected twists, more complex psychological plots and motives, and lots of high-stakes espionage and intrigue across Europe.
- The storyline may begin to resemble or relate to the original Frederick Forsyth book—same tone or structure—and may expand to include more of the action, adventure, or suspense that you have come to expect from this show.
We do not yet know the exact plot or logline for Season 2, but we will have new cast members and character descriptions for new roles available shortly. Expect to see a lot more cat and mouse, precision assassinations, and much higher personal stakes than in Season 1.
