Netflix has announced official announcements and released first look photos/teasers of Bridgerton Season 5 (including Dodd and Baduza) via Tudum that detail costume designs, excitement from set members, and groundbreaking stories. There have been no official trailers yet.

Bridgerton Season 5: Latest updates on release date

At the end of March 2026, Netflix announced the production of Bridgerton season 5; however, there is no official release date at this time. According to both Netflix and the first season showrunner, Jess Brownell, production for season 5 will follow a similar timeline as seasons past, running approximately two years (approximately 8 months for filming, followed by post-production, editing, and dubbing), leading to an estimated air date period for late 27 or early 28.

Filming on season 5 started immediately upon the completion of season 4 (which aired in early 2026), which focused on Benedict and Sophia. Filming is currently occurring outside of London. In 2025, Netflix announced full-series renewals for seasons 5 through 6.

Bridgerton Season 5: Lead Couple and Plot Details

The focus of Season 5 is the relationship between Francesca Bridgerton Stirling (played by Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (played by Masali Baduza), which is the first same-gender romance featured in the series history. While it is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novel, “When He Was Wicked,” their romance is a gender flipped version of the story, with Michaela now acting as a female counterpart to Michael from the original story.

Plot point summary (Spoilers for previous seasons follow):

-Halfway through the season, the show picks up two years after Season 4 ended with the death of Francesca’s husband, Lord John Stirling (played by Victor Alli).

-The main character (Francesca), who is recently widowed, has returned to the marriage market for practical reasons. However, her return comes with complications when the cousin of her deceased husband, Michaela, returns to London from Scotland to settle her late cousin’s estate and address his family obligations.

-This season’s themes will include, but are not limited to, grief, healing, longing, second-chance romance, queer joy (not trauma), humor, and pathos. Jess Brownell, the show runner, has indicated that there will be “big time longing” and the pursuit of a happy ending throughout the series will be given much-needed attention during this season.

-Ms. Dodd and Ms. Baduza have both expressed excitement over bringing a realistic representation of queer love to a period piece and also ensuring that Francesca finds her own happiness.

-Subplots featuring all members of the Bridgerton family (including unresolved plot threads from previous seasons involving Eloise, Violet, and others) will continue throughout the season.
