The Day Of The Jackal is one of the most exciting thrillers currently available on global OTT (over-the-top) platforms! The show features espionage and assassinations in an intense, suspenseful manner. Eddie Redmayne plays the role of the Jackal (the master assassin) extremely well. Fans are currently waiting for Season 2 to come out, as they will see more intense cat and mouse chases, shown to be filled with personal vulnerabilities, world power intrigue, and shady betrayals based on the conclusion of Season 1 going into late 2024.
The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Release date speculation
After the successful first season of The Day of the Jackal, Peacock in the United States and Sky in the United Kingdom and other international territories welcomed the announcement of a second season due to be published in late 2024. At this time, there is not yet an announced release date from either streaming service. However, expectations are running high that we should see the second season premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
According to multiple sources, the second season is expected to begin filming in January 2026. Based on the length of time it took to complete the first season (filmed in 2023 and released in the fall of 2024), the time frame for rudimentary production of the second season, and the expected release date of the second season, the second season may be released late in 2026 if all goes according to plan, or it may be released as early as the beginning of 2027 if all does not go according to plan due to the factor of post-production timelines.
The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Cast Details
Eddie Redmayne is confirmed to return as the titular Jackal, the elusive assassin.
Other returning cast members from Season 1 are expected to include:
- Úrsula Corberó as Nuria (the Jackal’s wife)
- Charles Dance as Timothy Winthrop (the mysterious billionaire employer)
- Eleanor Matsuura as Zina Jansone
- Lia Williams as Isabel Kirby
- Chukwudi Iwuji as Osita Halcrow
- Sule Rimi as Paul Pullman
- And others like Jonjo O’Neill, Adam James, and Florisa Kamara in supporting roles.
Note: Lashana Lynch’s character Bianca Pullman met her fate in Season 1’s finale, so she is unlikely to return (the series diverged from the original novel’s ending).
New series regulars announced in early 2026:
- Weruche Opia (known from I May Destroy You)
- Pablo Schreiber (known from Halo and Orange Is the New Black)
Character details for the newcomers remain under wraps.
There’s a creative shift: Original creator/showrunner Ronan Bennett steps back from primary writing duties (due to scheduling) but stays on as executive producer. David Harrower (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth) takes over as lead writer/showrunner, which may bring a darker, more psychological tone.
The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Potential Plot
There are no details about the Season 2 plot, the logline, or the synopsis, because they have been kept very confidential. The season 1 finale had the Jackal running from his family and trying to find them after an intense confrontation. In season 2, we expect to see the Jackal in the world of high-profile assassinations and see how he manages his vulnerabilities and plays a cat-and-mouse game with many intelligence agencies.
There is some speculation that season 2 may be taking elements from the original Frederick Forsyth novel (which was loosely adapted to season 1); thus, expect to see similar themes that include international intrigue, betrayal, family values, and witnessing how the Jackal continues to evolve as a “broken” assassin as he deals with new enemies and threats.
As production has begun, we may receive more concrete information (such as a trailer, release dates, etc.) soon, such as through Peacock, Sky, or other live announcements!
