Steve Bannon, former White House strategist and host of War Room, made waves this week with his latest prediction about Donald Trump and the 2028 election—and yes, it’s as alarming as it sounds.
During an interview with Chris Cuomo on NewsNation, Bannon doubled down on his admiration for Trump, calling him a once-in-a-century leader and insisting that he’s “on fire” heading into the next election. But the real shocker came when Bannon suggested that Trump would run and win in 2028—despite the 22nd Amendment clearly prohibiting a third term.
The third-term theory: A joke or a real plan?
Trump himself has joked multiple times about staying in office beyond two terms, but his supporters, including Bannon, seem to be taking the idea very seriously. When pressed by Cuomo on how they would make it happen, Bannon’s response was cryptic:
“We’re working on it… we’ll see what the definition of term limit is.”
For anyone who’s read the U.S. Constitution, the definition is clear: A president can only serve two terms. But Trump has a history of challenging constitutional limits, including his past efforts to end birthright citizenship (14th Amendment).
Could Trump actually run again?
Legally? No. The 22nd Amendment is explicit—no president can serve more than two terms. However, that hasn’t stopped speculation that Trump and his allies could find a loophole or attempt to change the rules.
Bannon hinted that they’re already working on something behind the scenes, stating:
“We’re not prepared to talk about it publicly, but in a couple of months, I think we will be.”
What exactly does that mean? No one knows—but if history is any indication, it’s not something to take lightly.
